Even in central Oklahoma, smack in the middle of tornado alley, a given plot of land only has a 1% chance of getting hit by a tornado per year.

Yes, and the likelihood here is much less than that.

frankly, i'm not sure if there is any location where one could avoid any form of a natural disaster. Hurricanes can hit coastal areas. Tornados can hit all over the place. Earthquakes aren't only in CA. Wildfires and floods can happen anywhere. Add on blizzards in many of the northern areas.....
I think it's more important to make sure you are prepared for what could happen in your area then try to find a spot that would never have any concerns.
Back in WI, we had tornados ( some deadly ), major flooding, the temp extremes that can also take lives; plus if anyone enjoys history read up n the "Peshtigo Fire". Same day as Chicago's, but far more serious. We didn't move to escape any potential disasters, we moved as we wanted to move. Just go in with some knowledge of what the new area can hold and you should be able to keep yourself as safe as you were in your previous spot...

In Columbia, there are few. A tornado could happen, not likely. You might get part of a hurricane leftover but it probably won't be too bad.
