I appreciate the honest answers. I have very low expectations fo Florence so far. I would love to be pleasantly surprised, but from what I read I just don't think that's going to happen.

A place to live is what you make of it. Florence has everything a large city would have just in a smaller package. The Florence Little Theatre, The Florence Ballet, the Florence Orchestra. Have you seen the gigantic Library that was built not long ago? Every year Francis Marion University puts on "Arts Alive" I really loved going to that when I lived in Florence. I'm not sure what you're looking for exactly. I think you've gotten some great suggestions on alternative places to live. Good luck.
