Slow and Steady
It seems that the developer was banking on the intown location proximity to USC and Innovista.. How much were the homes selling for? Over the long haul it is probably a good area.. I imagine in the Dreher and its feeder school zones. I thought some of the units were suppose to be "affordable" as a condition of its redevelopment by its former owner.. Cola Housing Authority.
Here is another intown residential development slowed by the shaky economy.

They started at 176K, IIRC. The model home was 227K for 1600sf, which is waaaay high. Bedrooms, except the master were tiny.
I have a feeling the duplexes may be the 'affordable' units.

Crime in Dowtown Columbia
First let me say that every crime should be taken seriously and fully investigated. With that being said, is the feeling that downtown Columbia is unsafe overblown?I would be curious to know what others take is on this...

It isn't nearly as bad as it was in the mid-eighties.

North Main on the Rise
Here is an interesting article on how development interest are continuing to creep up North Main and connecting the dots with already popular neighborhoods such as Keenan Terrace, Earlewood Park, and slowly but surely Hyatt Park. Some of these development projects were older apartments that are now being converted in to mid price condos that are cheaper that whats going up downtown. Proximity to downtown, the Three Rivers Greenway and public transit( in a $3plus a gallon world) will continue to make these neighborhoods areas attractive.

Some of the new and renovated homes in Keenan Terrace/Eau Claire are amazing. I love the craftsman style bungalows. I think with the work the city is doing on N. Main street...these areas are sure to get hot soon!

1800 parking spaces....Really???
This is slightly off topic.. but I read to my surprise that the City leaders say that the central business district is 1800 parking spaces short??? Really??? I am not one of the minions that work in the CBD but I am floored that the city needs this many spaces.. This may be old news for some of you but I am quite surprised unless I am missing something. Hell.... if we need that many spaces they need to look to Chicago's Marina City and build two or three of these babies with parking all the way up and be done with it. We can become Columbia...let yourself park or.. if you lived here, you'd be parked by now
Seriously..... is that much parking truly necessary or just an excuse for the city to spend more money on garages ????
