Default Columbia trip to consider possible move

My husband may have an opportunity to transfer to Columbia with his job. We want to visit the area prior to commiting to the transfer. We are planning on visiting the area in July while we are visiting relatives in Charlotte. We were hoping that he could transfer to Charlotte, but that is not going to be an option.

We have two boys, one who will be starting kindergarten in the fall and another one who will be in 5th grade. Is kindergarten full day? I know this might depend on the school district. It is where we currenlty live in PA.

We are trying to get information on the location he would be working since we obviously don't want him to have a long commute. Any advice in what areas we could visit so we could get a general idea would be appreciated. Hopefully we could get more information on the actual location soon.

Let us know when you find out what area of town his job will be located. Regardless of the section, there will be an appropriate area with a reasonable commute where you could find good schools and affordable housing. I'm not sure about full day kindergarten. I think it's full day, but I don't have any children. If you want to look around the city I have photos of different areas on my website, but the photos are heavy on in-town areas and there aren't a lot from the suburbs.

Thank you for the information. Hopefully we will find out the actual area soon. We want to keep the commute short for him.
