Smile Anybody in mental health or social work field?

I am a psychiatric social worker in Birmingham, and am considering moving to Columbia. I would love input from other mental health professionals, or from fellow social workers. What is the job market like, is there a lot to choose from, does it pay comparable to other cities, decent benefits, etc. Also, what population do you work with? I work with a REACT team, and deal primarily with the seriously mentally ill/homeless/co-occurring population. Thanks.

Default Anybody in mental health or social work field

The main aims of this service are, to be responsive and flexible, to provide mental- health assessment and treatment, and to work with residential care staff, foster parents and field social workers. Young people referred to the mental-health service had high rates of abuse, history of offending behaviour, poor school attendance and frequent previous contacts with child mental-health services.

I wish I could help you out but my mom is a social worker at the SC Department of mental health. She works with a few girls so I don't think her case load is that big as when she worked for Mentor (foster agency). But I think the job market is here and the pay is well

Hi
I am a medical social worker who moved here from Maryland (1 yr ago). I worked at Hopkins and will be working at Richland Hospital. The pay is about the same (under 8,000 dollar difference). There are plenty social work jobs here in SC. When I first came to SC I worked PRN in the ED of the local hospital in Lexington (doing psych assessments). Since they have a SWker 24/7 in the hospital, I was able to do a few hours here and there. Go to salary.com. You can compare your current salary to SC SW salaries. Hope this helps.
