brandon i'm not downing you but you JUST DONT GET IT and the reason why it isn't hitting home for you is because racism has never really been at your door. you can't relate to this thread because you have never had to deal with true prejudice and why do people always say " oh but I have black friends" does that make you an expert? are you exempt from being pompous based on your friends creed, race or class??? thats like saying"Oh I dont like rich people, I dont understand them, all rich people must be miserable" and then trying to validate the same statements by saying oh and I have rich friends, so it is acceptable for me to say negative things.

Yeah, I agree. Nobody benefits from insults. You can disagree with someone all you want, but don't get all defensive and hostile about it please. That is what separates civilized adults from those who are not.

First time on this site, and I guess it would be great for me to reply on this one...

I have lived in Columbia since I was born (24 years), and I have to say at times that Columbia didn't seem like a good fit for me. I spent alot of my time thinking about what city I was going to move to. Then, I realized how much opportunity I was receiving here in Columbia. I wanted to move to Jacksonville, but Columbia offers me what I need.

As for African-American living in Columbia, I have enjoyed living in the Lower Richland area because it provides a good middle for living. Sometimes craziness may happen over here, but there is never a dull moment. Based on where you live in Columbia determines your experience. If I had to choose any city to live in South Carolina, it would be right here in Columbia! :-)

Racism is alive and well in SC! Is that what you wanted to hear because it seems it's the only response you'll be happy with? Don't tell what I have and haven't had to deal with. I've worked with at risk youth and I can tell you it goes both ways whether you want to believe it or not. You're an American and you have the same opportunities I do. Having black friends or gay friends does not make one an expert but it does mean that person is likely not overly prejudiced nor should that person be attacked for their opinion which is just as good as yours.

Did you ever stop to think about YOUR reactions and how they might be perceived. When someone shows an inclination not to be prejudiced and gets beat up for their opinion could that change their opinion? Seems to me you should embrace rather than attack if you want change. Where is the prejudice on this post because it seems directed at me because I'm white and offered my experience?

*Racism is alive and well in SC was/is sarcasm towards the original poster for anyone just joining the party*

There is no one size fits all. I'd say people searching for a new place to live should focus on what city is best for the individual. What is important to one person may not be important to the next. To assume that a city best for an individual based simply on race is a generalization and not necessarily accurate.

Honestly, your post seems a bit racist to me but perhaps I'm interpreting it wrong. To turn the table how would posters like it if someone asked "What cities are best for white people?"
