If you're from southern, rural Indiana with a racist, homophobic, and zenophobic outlook, you will probably fit seamlessly in Sumter. You may qualify for food stamps, too. SC doesn't prioritze public education, and teacher salaries are shamefully low. Good luck and God bless!

Hi painter dude...I figured a gated area would be much safer is why I was looking for it...I have never lived in a gated community so its not that big of a problem....I just want to be safe and secure.
Hey Steph...that doesnt sound like a bad idea...guys can go work and we will jump in my edge and run to Myrtle Beach all the time...yep sounds good )

It's beautiful here in Sumter. We have fine dining- McDonalds, Burger King, Bojangles(my favorite!),KFC, Subway, Wendy's. We have restaurant rows all over our rapidly growing city. As for shopping, we've got everything your heart could ever desire at our SuperWalmart. When it opened, it was the largest in all of SC. In fact, my heart still skips a beat everytime I walk through it's newly redecorated entrance. Sumterites are marvelous people-very smart and thus, very conservative. Please choose the Gamecock City. We love getting to know people from exotic locales like yourn. Personally, I think people who say bad things about Sumter should not be allowed to post negative comments. God bless!

Donna....I take it that you're here under witness protection. Either that or one of your family members is stationed here or in the "joint". Otherwise, why stay? It's a big country out there, all it takes is the guts to leave. I'm new here and have lived in several places in several states and yea, I'm old, but so far I've found it to be a nice place, other than the small town snobbery of some of the golfers, I think its a dang friendly spot. pd

Seems like someone peed in her Cheerios.
Donnacreation....
If you want to come off like some clever and "too hip for the room" literary maven in your posts, you might want to learn to spell xenophobic so you don't embarrass yourself further.

Glad to hear you like the city Painterdude since I have heard so much negativity. It has been a while since I last spoke to you. We are still scheduled to come to Sumter to Shaw AFB in December. I am so excited and cannot wait!!! Have a great afternoon!

All of Donna's posts about Sumter have been negative, so don't take them to heart. PD, glad you're enjoying yourself so far. PAFW, glad you're looking forward to your move here.
If any of you that are new to the area have children, be sure to head downtown for trick-or-treat this year. We don't do the neighborhood thing (though we probably should hit up some of the upscale neighborhoods for the good stuff... ;c) ) and the mall started skimping (and getting crowded) several years ago, so we've been doing the downtown thing and it's been fun. Several blocks of Main St are blocked off and they have candy stations set up (and marked for identification), games, food vendors, music and shows/events, haunted alley, etc and it's all supervised by our local law enforcement.

Ceezer, I don't know if Meadowcroft is upscale, but I'll keep some milky ways and a Flat Tire Ale for you, just in case you make it over. Be safe and enjoy. The downtown thing is a great idea. Our small town in central NY had a costume parade by schools and classes with cider and doughnuts etc. Our son always opted for the door to door. Back in the day I ran a tavern across the street from the judging stand. I had shots lined up for the dads who could get away for a quicky on those years where it was in the 20's and snowing. Ah memories. pd

Just wanted to stop by and say hello as not been on here for a while. Well everything I have hear about Sumter seems to be positive apart Donna in this room LOL but I really cant wait to get there! We fly out 3rd Jan so its getting close. I think a place is what you make it, Im a very happy go lucky person so im not at all worried. And if the biggest downfall is that you have to drive to the shops then so what, if thats all people have in their lifes its pretty sad. I visited Kenya a few years ago.... those people have it bad so Donna, thank your blessings you have a store to at least drive to!!
