Hi Pd, yes I saw the info you put, thank you so much. I have kept his details and will be in touch with him closer to the move. With me being british all this 'subdivision' is confusing, I have no clue what it means LOL Sorry, I need educating ha ha

A subdivision is just a grouping of homes, usually all built at/around the same time. An investor will buy up some land and develop it for the specific purpose of creating a neighborhood.

Yea, it's usually on the outskirts of a town, like a mini suburb. I'd guess that most of the neighborhoods in your area have been there for quite some time, though in your travels I'd assume there are suburban areas like spokes out of the cities where those who can commute. You can always google a map of Sumter or go to the real estate websites and Mapquest the neigbhorhoods. Most of the listings tell what "subdivision" the house is in. Look under MLS listing...multiple listings used by realtors. That's how I narrowed down the houses I wanted to look at. They'll tell you how large the lot is, the age of the house, schools etc. Looking is partof the fun. pd

Steffie, what's your transfer date if you know. The young couple across the street are both being deployed this fall and winter ans will be looking to sell sometime early next year I think. As I said, the realtor and I are not in business. Perhaps I could hook you up with the folks across the street...and save you both some commision money???? Just a thought.

Proud Air Force Wife is on a distinguished road
Hello everyone...So I have a question....I have looked on lots of real estate websites and it seems like all the houses are classified as being in a subdivision which to me seems impossible. What are the main subdivisions in Sumter SC? I have found Pocalla Springs, Hunter's Crossing, Knights Village, McLaughlin Estates, Beach Forest, Willows, Wintergreen, Meadowcroft, Ashbrook, etc. Every single houses claims to be in a subdivision. Which ones are actually subdivisions and which are just areas of the city with a nickname. The reason I ask is in Montgomery AL we had nice subdivisions that were contained, fenced off, and had amentities. Then we had neighborhoods where there was a group of houses built around the same time like someone mentioned before and they are not contained and do not have amenities. Then there were sections of town with nicknames like for example city limit of Montgomery one part of town was nicknamed "chisholm" another part called "old cloverdale" and so on but that did not mean they were nice parts of town and definitely did not mean subdivision. I have been looking for some sort of formal subdivision with a community feel, amenities, and nice new construction homes. Does anyone know a true subdivision that would meet the criteria? I am new to moving since I lived in central AL 26 years before moving to an apt. here in TX for 6 months and will make a formal move to Sumter. Please help Steffie and I...we are in need of information. Thanks again and sorry to need so much help )

Airforce Wife...most of these are subdivisions with names but no gates or security. None of them that I know of has ammenities..I'm guessing community pool, tennis courts and baseketball etc. I've not found any like that around here. Even some of the really high end subs are gateless. Having lived in Florida for 20 years including gated golf course developments will tons of ammenities, I guess it isn't a factor here. Beech Creek is on a golf course near the base, but there is nothing there except some houses and golf. The rest are like my area Meadowroft...2 brick walls with the name on it, but nothing else.

Steffie...they will be selling as far as I know, but there are lots of Rentals by AF personell overseas, in fact the Major next door is renting from someone stationed in Korea...I'm sure you'll have no trouble finding something. pd

If you're from southern Indiana and a fundamentalist Christian conservative, with a racist, homophobic, and zenophobic outlook, you will probably fit in Sumter seamlessly. You may qualify for food stamps, too. SC doesn't prioritize public education, and teacher pay is shamefully low.
