The ridiculous thing about that is that the City of Columbia sued the state a few years ago to get rid of the flag. Unfortunately the case didn't solve the problem as the state has sovereignty. Maybe the city or Richland County could secede? ![]() Anyway, back to the questions about Columbia and Lexington. Lexington is just a suburb of Columbia. Downtown Lexington to downtown Columbia is about 12 miles or a 15-20 minute drive, depending on traffic. The weather here is hot and humid during the summer, but there are 4 seasons and it does occasionally get cold during the winter, but cold weather doesn't last for long periods of time. The leaves do change colors during the fall, unlike areas further south. As far as gangs, other than a few bad neighborhoods, I don't think you would notice a presence and as far as living in the city vs the suburbs, there are good and bad areas of both. Allen University is located in downtown Columbia so maybe you'd like to look at one of the neighborhoods reasonably close to there? |

The flag should come down but I don't think that explains it. Chucktown and Greenville seem to get a lot of good shows.

Columbia just had Pearl Jam..it gets its fair share of shows, but it could get a lot more. And, it all depends on what you define as a 'good' show. I think the New Brookland has a lot of good shows..as does the Art Bar and Hunter Gatherer.

Pearl Jam was a great show but the band peaked 10 years ago. New Brookland and Art Bar get some good shows every now and then, Headliners does a little better.

Has anyone been to 5 Points Pub, I was walking by there last weekend and their band sounded pretty good.

I will admit it is nothing like the hey-days of the metal scene at Rockefellas or hanging out with 311 at the Elbow Room..the good ol' days

Is anyone old enough to remember Greenstreets?

I've been lurking for quite some time, but felt compelled to respond to Waccamatt about Greenstreets. Yes, I'm old enough to remember Greenstreets. It was one of my favorite hangouts. Tuesday night was jazz night with the Dick Goodwin Quintet from USC. They were great. I remember the name of the club Rockefella's, but I can't for the life of me remember where it was. Please remind me. Dundee's was another place we'd go for live music.

Rockafella's was on Devine Street in Five Points where Jakes is now.
Nobody has mentioned Mac's on Main or Jammin' Jazz. Has anyone been to either place? |
