Looking ahead to book a flight for may daughter to come home for Thanksgiving. There are more and cheaper options flying into and out of Charlotte. I'm thinking there should be either bus or train service to the Charlotte airport from Columbia. Am I correct?

there is an amtrak station and bus station in Columbia. You could check their schedules. Plus, if she is a student she might be able to hitch a ride with another student going to Charlotte

I know there isn't train service and as far as I know there isn't bus service to the airport. There may be bus service to wherever the Greyhound station is in Charlotte, but that would be a long ride. She'd be best off getting a ride from a friend.

You could ride Amtrak from Charlotte to Columbia, but the trip is a real roundabout route, requiring a trip from Charlotte to Raleigh, then back down to Columbia. I would not advise the train as a viable option (I believe a Charlotte-Columbia connector train was in the works at one time, but it probably didn't get through).

At one time I think I read about a van that made trips from Columbia to the Charlotte airport on a daily basis, but I have no idea who the company was. I'll ask around at work. I know a lot of students post things like that in The Gamecock and in Free Times so that may be the best option.

I'll let it stay since it isn't a link, per se.

For what it's worth, I think you'd be better off paying the higher ticket price for the trip to Columbia. I did that same thing, got the ticket to Charlotte a few months ago. Between the 2 roundtrips to Charlotte (time and gas) the Columbia ticket would have been worth it.

Thank you all for your responses. It seems I may have to bite the bullet and buy the more expensive ticket unless she meets someone else going to Charlotte. Also thought about renting a car for the one way trips but I think you have to be 21. Anyway thanks again for your help.
