Okay, so you just mean something that is new or has been updated. When you used the word "modern" my mind went straight to modern design.

jlboney-Is Crestwell a suburb or a subdivision?
Brandon-Max commute would be 30 mins drive time one way from Jenkinsville. Would be concerned about schools, promixity to amenities (food, shopping), and resale.

Crestwell is a subdidvision in Irmo. But, Irmo may be farther than 30 minutes from Jenkinsville. What size house are you looking for? There is a new subdivision in Northeast Columbia called Landon Place which will offer hardy plank and will be closer to Jenkinsville than Irmo. Landon Place however is a brand new subdivision and the homes there will have to be built if you wanted to live there.

jlboney-2200 sqft min. What other cities should I consider? I just don't want to feel far away from conveniences (Target, groceries, etc)

You may want to look into Chapin. Great Lex/Richland 5 schools, growing town, only 10-15 minutes from shopping Harbison, but would save a you a few miles on the commute. Plenty of neighborhoods fit your criteria...Foxport, Cedar Cove....

Chapin would also be a good place to do some research on, it is a growing town with some nice communities. The closest area to live in as for as the power plant is concerned would be in Fairfield county. But, Fairfield is still quite small and there isn't a lot to do there for entertainment. You could also consider Blythewood, SC, they have good schools and are about 10 minutes away from shopping, dinning, and the movies in the Village at Sandhills.

I agree with Sonof; Blythewood would be a slightly shorter commute to Jenkinsville than is Irmo and it's still close to Northeast shopping. Chapin would be closer to Jenkinsville via the Broad River bridge at Peak, but it is further from shopping, etc.

And I agree with Waccamatt that you would be better served in either Chapin or Blythewood. Comparable locations. Chapin has Lake Murray if you like water.

Might want to look at Winnsboro, too. I was there last week and it is a nice town. Even has a Walmart on the 34 Bypass.
