Live in Irmo or Cola?
My husband is considering a job in Jenkinsville and he'll be working on his graduate degree at USC. We are 30, with no children, but will be planning on starting a family with our move. Should we live in Irmo or Cola? We will be purchasing a home and will be concerned with resale. What factors should we consider? Schools? Access? Amenities? What's hot, What's not? Finding a comtemporary evangelical church will be important and living within close proximity will be too. We have modern taste and would like to find a community and home that mirrors this under $300K. I don't want to be too far from civilization. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I'd prefer living in the city than in the suburbs, especially if I would be going to grad school at USC. There are good schools in-town in the Dreher and AC Flora feeder districts. As far as housing, do you prefer a house, a town house or a condo? I can't give you much advice on churches, but I'm sure someone else can.

You said you like modern design. I think it is either Coldstream or Murraywood in the Irmo area that have a lot of contemporary houses and they would have decent sized yards for the pups.

When you say "modern taste" do you mean modern architecture or something else?

Good question; I kind of assumed it meant architecture, but they may have meant something else.

My parents live not far from the power plant. I used to fish at Lake Monticello when I was younger and I have a cousin that works there.
You should take a look at Crestwell if you want to live in Irmo. They have brickfront homes with hardy plank sides and back.

What kind of commute are you looking to have? There are other nice areas, not just Irmo that you may want to consider depending on commute.
