Thanks for that bit of information.I probably need to be more specific in what I am looking for in public/low income housing. What I really want to know is,Are there any housing projects or apartments for like people with disabilities, that are racially proportionate with black and white or atleast a good number of whites living in the projects and what are the safest areas where these projects/apartments are located?

I would have no idea of the racial makeup of individual housing projects and I would doubt that the Housing Authority does either. I would highly recommend contacting them and expressing your needs to them.
It sure would be nice if there were someone on this site like myself,in Columbia who could relate to my question and have the answer that I'm looking for.Obviously by the lack of responses though,it appears the majority are in the upper social economic status and just don't have a clue.Anyway,I will check with the Columbia Housing Authority.

Gee,I did't realize I made such a mistake into thinking there were other memberes like myself on this site(on disability income) who would have any knowledge about what's available to low income people.I guss it's kind of like asking a room full of people all driving SUV's,How much is bus fare in Columbia?Everybody would be like,Hum,wonder what rock this fellow came out from.Me,I just think it's a damm shame.

I can tell you that bus fare in Columbia is $1.50 and if you live downtown the bus can be reasonably convenient. It's unfortunate that no one has been able to answer your questions. Have you spoken with the housing authority yet?
Unfortunate, yes, without a doubt.I been doing quite a bit of reading on this site, partically in the Columbia Posts and to tell you the truth,I'm not longer suprised that no answers to my question have been forthcoming.I mean from what I can tell, people wanting to relocate to Columbia are wanting to avoid moving into the neighborhoods where the projects and other public housing is, and then the already memberes living in the Columbia area are better off income wise and do not have to live in public housing.Believe me,I do see why there are such lack of responces.Yes,I have contacted aThe Disability Action Organization in Columbia and am receiving assistance in finding affordable and safe housing. But as I mentioned earlier,I just think it's a shame that anyone living in Columbia for several years can not even tell me if there is one project, highrise,or any other public housing that is close to being racially proportionate and in a moderately safe neighborhood.I mean come on Matt, this isn't Rocket Science.Anyway,I'm just a little upset to not find somebody more like myself on this site who could help me.By the way,bus fare in Columbia is 75 cents if you have a medicare cardedor disability card issued from the transit department.
Carolinapride, I know that it can be frustrating looking for a safe place to live in a different area that you are living in right know. My wife is dissabled (MD)and so is her brother (MD)who is losing his condo because do to his dissability can no longer afford it. My wife is lucky that I make a good living. My wife is looking at finding my brother a safe place to live. I have been reading the post on the Columbia web sit because I would like to re-locate to this area. From what I've read if these people could help you they would. Have you looked at any of the small towns around Columbia? We are having my brother-inlaw move to our town of Marysville Ohio because it safer then Columbus Ohio. It is also close enough to Columbus for the Hospitals and Doctors.
Good luck

Hello MGbuckeye, and thank you so much for your comments. No,I haven't looked into the small towns around Columbia because I have to be near conveiences and public transportation and being in a smaller town without a way to get around would leave me stranded.I don't want to come off in my post as having a bad attitude,I'm sure if someone could give me a straight answer about public housing and what's avai;able in Columbia, they would. It's just a little upsetting to read all the other threads with numerous posts answering the questions of otheres and yet I can't get one person to respond who seems to know anything about public housing and safe neighborhoods where lowincome housing is.Anyway,as I said in an earlier post,I do know the reason why,but it is very frustrating to receive no answer to my question.Again, thanks for your comments.
