Default Any info on Eagles Rest by Shumaker homes in Chapin

I spoke with a very warm and friendly woman who represents this new development....my family is thinking about relocating to Columbia area. Dont know much about Chapin but from the photos the area looks beautiful. I would appreciate any info on this Eagles Rest development and Shumaker homes as well. How is chapin??? The schools, the traffic getting to Columbia...I am a psych nurse and will hopefull try to get a job in Columbia...my hubbie works for insurance so he should have no problem.
Thanks for the assistance (as always)
Crisann from NJ

I don't know much about the development, but keep in mind that Chapin is a hefty commute if you work downtown. Of course we're talking in relative terms because I live and work downtown and have about a 10 minute commute to work. Probably Chapin to downtown during rush hour would take about 45 minutes. It's a nice little town, a fast-growing exurb, and it's close to Lake Murray and Dreher Island State Park. The schools have a good reputation, but the area would be a bit too rural for my tastes.

Eagles Rest - Shumaker Homes
1-Solid Builder
2-Great location on Johnson Marina Rd.
3-Chapin schools in Lex/Richland 5 (blue ribbon school district)
4-In a competitive price point
5-Really just getting started building in there
6-Prices from 225ish-325ish, can get a lot of home for that, worth looking around to make sure it's what you want
7-If working in Columbia will be a bit of a commute
8-Very convenient to Lake Murray access (Johnson Marina Rd.)
9-Close to Peak exit onto I-26
10-Building new Wal-Mart near there

Vickie Proper is on a distinguished road
Although Eagles Rest has a Chapin address, it is not as far from Columbia as Chapin. The neighborhood is located off of Johnson Marina Rd. which is between Ballentine and Chapin. When I leave here at 6:00 in the evening to go downtown, it only takes 20 minutes or less. However; the traffic going downtown in the morning rush hour would probably make the trip 35 minutes or so. You need to check it out when you come to town as I think it is worth it and so do our homeowners!

this is one of the subs we are looking at as well ( since we are currently in the Chapin area and really like it ). As a boat owner, and knowing this sub does not have lake access tied to it; where do residents w/ boats go to launch out? I know there is the Marina just down the road, is that better access then using one of the public sites nearby?
Just curious, thanks for any info.

Shumaker Homes just had to buy back two houses in Milford Park subdivision because of MOLD. The houses had severe water problems that Shumaker knew about before selling the houses. THey didn't do anything to help the homeowners who eventually sued them in Richland county. The lawsuits are public record so you can check it out. The promise you a full warranty but change their story after closing and swith you to a 2-10 warranty that you have to pay $250 for every problem you have. Think twice before buying a house from Shumaker! ( the house were only a couple of months old when the mold started and they are 3 years old now)
