Question wage earners in Irmo

We were wondering where Irmo residents are working to make the money they are? According to the city data list,
they make a considerable amount more than the state ave.
What's up with that?

Keep in mind first, that residents of metro areas in South Carolina typically make more than the state average so it stands to reason that residents of Irmo would, too. It is also a middle to upper middle class suburb of Columbia so the residents would also tend to make more than other parts of the metro. I'm sure the majority of Irmo residents work in Columbia.

With al due respect for Columbia,it not the booming metro type
city as say Charlotte,
The ave. earning for Irmo was posted at over $50,000 Yr. (!)
What sort of jobs pay this much in Columbia (to support this stat)?
Just curious! We have looked at many different cities and this seems rather out of place compard to even larger cities we have looked at. Any ideas?

Columbia is a white collar town; there are many jobs that would pay more than $50,000 a year. I work for a financial institution and most individuals in a branch manager's capacity or higher at a financial institution would make at least $50,000 a year. I'd also expect most department level managers working for state and federal government to make this, along with University professors and administrators, school administrators, principals and assistant principals. Certainly most professionals of all sorts would make above that threshold.

I live in Irmo and sell real estate. I have friends that do all sorts of things. It's a wide range and the area doesn't have any one type of profession that dominates the area. There are obviously teachers, medical field, attorneys, and the like because there are many type of jobs like that around here.
