as purely an outsider for now, we were down in the area this past week and spent some time near the lake over the holiday weekend. I can make a couple observations; only in comparisons to the lakes we are used to up here in Madison WI area:
- the water itself was warm and clean. a huge diff to what i'm used to. We could actually watch some LM bass cruising the shallows along the schools of baitfish ( as a fisherman that can really get the blood pumping )
- while there was boat traffic of course, due to the size of the lake, and it's many coves; there seemed to be plenty of spots one could go to get out of the traffic ( and wakes ) if needed.
The above 2 notes are some of the reasons in our choosing this location for future move; to go along with all the other positives we found. good luck
Does anyone on this Columbia, SC Forum have a boat and put it on Lake Murray? There is only a Dam on this lake, right........no Power Plants (Nuclear type) like where we live. We hope we like Columbia/Lake Murray when we visit there this weekend and next month (State Fair), b/c we really don't like living where we are. Just hope the job searching is better (even a little bit) there than here. If Columbia turns out not to be the area for us, we will really be in a pickle to find somewhere else to live.

There is a hydroelectric plant at the dam, but there is no nuclear plant on the lake. If you're boating on the lake, though, you probably wouldn't even know that there is a hydro plant.
