^ Do you know what part of town you'll be working? That would help give you some recommendations along with whether you wish to buy or rent and what your price range and space needs are.

Answering waccamatt's questions would be a good start for me to be able to recomend communities to you. Whether you want to buy or rent, there are lots of nice areas in Columbia, it just depends on what part of town you need or want to be in. What company are you with?

It will be my wife and two children and three small dogs. My company is in Gervais Street in Columbia. For a start I would like to rent until I manage to build up an USA credit rating that will allow me to purchase, and my budget for rental ill be in the region of $ 1 000 to $1 500. I don't mind travelling less than 30min to work.

Maybe you should look into Rosewood/Shandon, Olympia, or Earlewood. I really can't say what all is for rent in those areas, but they are all in close proximity to where you will be working. Rosewood always has houses for rent, since it is so close to the University. I don't see where you will have any trouble finding a place to rent for that price and still remain close to work.

Did you find any information on the schools for children that have special needs. I have a son with special needs.
