thanksgiving holiday events, things to do, etc
my sister and her fam are coming in for thanksgiving and besides the obvious: eating, i'm trying to come up with things to do that weekend. my sister has two girls in the grade/middle school age groups and my son is a toddler. i thought of maybe taking them to the zoo, but that is, really, kind of a last resort. do you know of anything happening that weekend that would be fun and kids of all ages can enjoy?

Haven't been there myself, but have heard good things about EdVenture as far as something for the kids to do.

State Museum is cool. I've heard EdVenture is pretty pricey.

I'm not sure when the "Lights Before Christmas" starts at the zoo, but it should be sometime around Thanksgiving. Don't forget about Congaree National Park - this is a great time of year to visit.

thank you so much for the suggestions. i actually did think of edventure... we took our son there a couple of months ago for the bubblepalooza display (a bit of a disappointment in my opinion, but the kid had a blast--what toddler doesn't love bubbles?-- so it was worth it in the end) i did find it a bit pricey, though.
has anyone been to the 'mann-simons cottage', 'hampton-preston mansion' or 'robert mills house'? our family are kind of history buffs and was wondering if they were worth a visit. would you hit up all three? or is there one that definitely outshines the rest?

Check into Christmas lights at the zoo or Saluda Shoals Park. It might be too early. That weekend following is the USC/Clemson game but it's in Clemson this year. Columbia will probably be very quiet that Saturday.

Those 3 historic houses are nice as is the Woodrow Wilson Boyhood Home. There is also McKissick Museum at USC, the State Museum and the Columbia Museum of Art.

Frankie's Fun Park might be good on a mild day.
