Default Does anyone know if I have some sort of recourse?

Moved into Cola about 6 mths ago. Found a place in downtown, a great area (not cheap by no mean) to rent and now have been living here for about 2 months. Since day one I've had problems with Palmetto Bugs. I brought it to the Property Manager's attention. She was reluctant to do anything about the problem. Finally she sent over several exterminators but still to my dismay I'm finding ones here and one there (4 in the past week). The first 2 nights though was ridiculous I kill about 12 of them which were attacking me and my animals.

Anyway they've promised to fix striping on the doors about a month ago and clean out the cleaning unit but again have not done anything. Are there any property manager, real estate agents or attorneys on here that know if I have any rights to break my lease?

There explanation to me was I must have moved in with them. I was living here 4 mths prior to this and never saw one. Now when i take my clothes out of the closet I'm constantly shaking and looking. I was traveling last week and found a dead one in my suitcase. I do understand that Palmetto Bugs are native here but am I being riduiclous? This can't be normal seeing so many, especially alive.

Any help would be greatly appericated. Oh and the property manager also said they've never had a problem like this before. But I went online and
read 2 other reviews with similar stories. To me, it's just deplorable and seems like highway robbery. I'm even more concerned they are nesting in my stuff which makes me nervous about moving anything.

Palmetto bugs usually come in from outside and are not necessarily indicative of a cleanliness problem. You are probably close to a water source or there is a lot of mulch near your place. Try buying some boric acid/roach "prufe" powder and spreading it outside near your windows and doors and getting the baits for large roaches. If you're in a damp area it will be hard to get rid of all of them, but those steps should reduce them significantly. Good luck.

Also, they love any sweet smelling vegatation. If you have ivy, jasmine vine, mexican heather, or even large trees near your front door/windows they could be having a palmetto bug party in there. When we unpacked our Christmas decorations last year a---after our move to TX--we found a dead one in the box. Normally I am mortified by them but that one promoted a 'awww I miss SC' response. Happy smashing!
