Scana
I grew up in Lexington and left ten years ago to work for the Navy. I recieved a job offer recently to work at the Nuclear Power Plant in Jenkinsville as an operator there. I was wondering if anybody on this forum might work there, and if so how is it? Also, I am a 27 year old single guy, who is looking to live downtown somewhere. Any suggestions? Thanks

Are you looking for a house, an apartment or a condo?

I would like to rent for the first 6 months to year. So I think an apartment would be best for me ($1000/month max). Thanks.

I did check out the website for Canalside, but it doesn't really reveal the location all that well. Is it in a good spot?

The plant in Jenkinsville is not really close to anything that could be considered down town. It's about 45 minutes from Columbia, depending on what part you are in. I grew up in Winnsboro right next door to Jenkinsville and I have friends that have worked there and some that still do. At least to hear them talk about it, they all enjoyed working there.

Thanks. Yeah I know it's way out there, but I'm willing to commute in order to live downtown. That sounds good, if the people you talked to liked working there.

Canalside is in the Vista area and it is right next to the river and the Columbia Canal. It is a new development on the site of the former State Penetentiary. I'd highly recommend any of the places in the Vista. I would look at Canalside, Renaissance Plaza, Vista Commons, Vista Lofts, and the Olympia Mill and Granby Mill Lofts. Capitol Places has a lot of apartments in the Main Street area. I think I saw your post on Gamecock Central, too.

If you don't want to be in a complex, poke around in the neighborhoods around Five Points; there are a lot of duplexes and quadruplexes for rent. I have photos of a lot of the in-town neighborhoods on my website, which is linked in my profile.

Hey thanks, Yeah I did do a post on gamecock central. I have decided to come to accept the offer from SCANA, because they are building two new reactors there, and I feel the advancement opportunities will be higher there in the future. Thanks for the links.
