Ivy Square
Is Ivy Square a good area? Does bus route 30 serve that area?

If you are talking about the Ivy Square I am thinking of, it is a patio home community on Long Green Parkway off of Clemson Rd next to Long Leaf Middle School. I live in Brookhaven also off of Long Green Parkway, and I like it here. Over all I have no complaints about the whole area, but that's me, I can't speak for everyone. As for the bus route you are asking about, I am not sure.

If I'm not mistaken, Ivy Square is in the Blythewood area. I doubt the bus goes out that far. Here is a link to the CMARTA route map. The furthest northeast the bus goes is the Village at Sandhill on Two Notch Road or Providence Hospital Northeast on Farrow Road. If you must travel by bus it would be most practical to live in-town.

According to the CMRTA website, bus route 30 runs outbound from Laural and Sumter Street to Saddletrail and Saddlefield. And inbound from Crane Church and Fairfield to Laural and Sumter Street. That would not run by Ivy Square if we are thinking about the same Ivy Square.

Ivy Square
jboney - is there any public transportation nearby to Ivy Square? My brother lives 8 miles south (down 21.) I only ask because I am looking into retiring in the south & I now own free & clear a home California & am only familiar with Columbia via visits to SC to see him & his family since 2005. I have a car & do drive - but I may sell my car here before moving & then buy a new car in SC.

I think Ivy Square would be a good place to retire to, because it's a potio home community. The front yard and landscaping is taken care of, there are alarm systems, and the houses are pressure washed every year, so very low maintainence. But, I can't say that I really know of any public transportation that runs here. Other than taxis maybe, and I'm sure that's not what you mean.
Ivy Square is just past Providence Northeast Hospital on Farrow Rd and down the road from The Village at Sandhill off Clemson. I know that buses run to both of those, but as of yet, I have seen none that run over to here. Most of the public transportation(buses) are limited to the down town area.

Again, if you want to rely on public transportation to get around without a car you will need to live in-town.
