Which Neighborhoods are the most Culturally Diverse in SE Columbia
Hello,
My husband is planning to retire from the Army in Columbia really soon. He has not been out there in a long time. Currently he is in IRAQ and I have been tasked with the job of finding homes near "Garners Ferry Rd" or Leesburg, something about a highway 77. It looks like the SE side.
From what I can tell from my research those homes are in the 29209 zip code. He wants a home with "some land", doesn't want neighbors an arms length away. We don't like "cookie cutter neighborhoods"
He has asked me to look for homes in the 120s -150s but from what I have seen online it looks like we will be spending more in the 150s on up. Although, I did see a lovely home for $149k on the a street called Knollwood. I love it just from the pictures and descriptions. In fact, I asked him to contact his buddy down there to have a look at it. Does anyone know where Knollwood is located?
I am in San Antonio by the way.
My main concern is finding a neighborhood that has a nice racial mix. We live in a racially mixed area in San Antonio with lots of military and military retirees and we like that feel. We are and "older" couple with a 2yr old (he is 49 and I am 41) I am a RN currently working at the VA and will be looking for an opening there. We would like our daughter to attend private Christian school so the school district is not an issue but are there any Christian schools in that area of town?
I think I have read most of the threads r/t relocation and racial mixes. It sounds like Cottontown, Rosewood, Shandon and Keenan Terrace are nice areas.
I welcome suggestions, even for a church, we are non denominational.
Thanks for any help.

Please keep in mind that since you're looking for a larger lot you'll have to be further out in the suburbs and that will probably put you in a less diverse area than an in-town neighborhood. Most parts of southeast Columbia are racially diverse, though. I doubt you'll find a neighborhood that isn't racially diverse.

Knollwood is behind the Veterans Memorial Hospital off of Garners Ferry Rd. It has quite a few ranchers that may range in age from the 1960s through the 80s with some infill closer to the 1980s. I am not sure of the demographics of Knollwood specifically, but like most of Columbia it is either diverse or next to diverse areas that all comprise what is called SE Cola. Nice area have heard positive things about it and it fits the bill on what your are describing. It is also just inside the columbia "beltway" which means it is a reasonable commute to downtown.

I live in Meadowfield across the road from Knollwood.
Can you beter define "some land"? Do you want to have a garden, an orchard, or keep animals?
There are a lot of options on the East Side.
