Credit card Fraud (Red Bank area)
Hi, everyone. First time posting here.... been looking around the site trying to find a good business location...
It's a bit of long story... please bear with me
I work in a restaurant around Lexington. Sometimes I take orders over the phone and the person would come pick it up. Some would use credit card but they almost always show up with the card themselves, even if their "friends" would hand over the card to someone who is picking it up....
Now, this person called in. Made an order, and decides to give me his credit card number over the phone. I said... ok. We do that sometimes. The credit card machine requires extra information when the card is not present so I asked for those info and typed them in. One of them would be the billing address zip code... no go, the card won't pay.
It gets interesting from here. The guy gave me another card number. Again, doesn't work. He tried another card, another card, and another card.... none of them worked. He hanged up and didn't come in to pick up (I had many of these guys before so I didn't make the order ahead anyway... no loss... these guys never tell you that they give up the order they just hang up... leaving you to guess if he still wants it...very rude!!)
and that was 3/5/09
2 days later (today). He called back again. I recognized the phone number being a cell phone dealership store. He ordered and tried to use credit card over the phone again. Boy he had a lot of credit cards... all of them were different numbers. Again, none of the cards paid. I noticed that he mentioned different zip codes with different cards, one card with zip code starting with 3xxxx (not SC zip code!!) I told him to bring in the card... he hanged up again.
Now, I must also mention that... the cell phone store is literally 2-3 stores away from the restaurant... there's no way you can't even walk over and swipe the card... smells very fishy from here.
1 hour later he called back!! He again tried to use card numbers... I snapped and told him... no I can't take your cards over the phone. My boss said he won't take cc numbers over the phone again. then...
He: since when?
Me: yesterday
He: well I am working I can't leave, I even ordered yesterday
Me: I don't recall your order yesterday, even if you did your coworker paid on the spot not with the cc over the phone
He: blah blah blah
Me: look if I don't see your card I can't help you
*hang up
(What's so hard about showing up with the card??? especially when your caller ID says that you are only a few stores away?)
Now, I am very sure that this cell phone store guy is taking his customers' profiles (when you sign up for cells you need cc and address, just exactly what such ********* need) and trying to cheat some food from them. I want to ask you guys what to do with this event....
I also want to keep anonymity because I don't want my business and my boss to get in trouble...
Please advise.
We had since confirmed the card present policy. No more over the phone BS.
