Safe Apartments in Columbia/Lexington (Swansea: affordable apartment, school, live)

I am looking for a safe and affordable apartment in the Columbia/ Lexington area. I am going to be a grad student at USC and interning at Lexington County Mental Health and a school in Swansea, so I am looking for something somewhere between USC and the internship ideally. I am really trying to stay around $600 per month but don't wan't to compromise safety. Any suggestions on a good area/ apartment complex that may meet those needs? Thanks for the help.
