Default greenville or columbia?

I would like some help, we're wanting to relocate to S.C., this fall. My wife can get a transfer with her company. We currently live in Tampa and have 2 children. We would prefer a better environment to raise them. I worked in Greenville 13 years ago, but only for a short time, don't remember much about it. Can someone give some input. Thank You, Jon

Columbia. It's on the verge of becoming a major city, and has the best location in SC because it is centrally located.

sonofaque, i would disagree with both statements.

1. It's been 'on the verge of becoming a major city' for about 75 years. It is only even a reasonably-sized city because it is the capital of SC.

2. By no means is it the best location is SC. It isn't cool like the mountains, and it isn't fun like the ocean. It's blazing hot in the middle of the sand hills, where you can barely grow grass in your yard. It isn't in close proximity to a decent body of water (Lake Murray and the Congaree don't count as 'decent', they're both nasty), and it's only positive is the university (which has nothing to do with its location)

Having said all that, it's not 'better' or 'worse' than Greenville. It's just different. There's much more to do in Columbia than G'ville, but G'ville has a cooler climate & better schools.
