Need advice from people living in Columbia
I'm about to accept an internship at Palmetto Health on Taylor & Marion st. I'm not from the area and don't know anyone. I'm from PA. I'll be there just for the summer. Are there any apartments in that area or are there any apartments geared for a college student budget and is an easy commute to Palmetto Health? Is there a public transportation system? Thank you for any information ahead of time.

If you are just going to be here for the summer I would definitely look into sub-leasing from a student. Living by campus you would be close enough to work that you could actually walk...maybe try craigslist for a sub-lease

There are lots of apartments near USC that are in safe enough neighborhoods, a search of the threads will reveal lots of info on these. University Hill http://www.wikimapia.org/#lat=34.001...15&l=0&m=h&v=2 is closest, then Wales Garden and Wheeler Hill, then Shandon, Melrose Heights and Forest Hills, then Hollywood/Rose Hill. The boundaries of these neighborhoods are marked out on Wikimapia.
The bad area is centered on Millwood and Gervais, and unfortunately means that walking from Melrose Heights or Forest Hills is contraindicated. There is no public transportation in Columbia on which I would like to ride.

Yes. Palmetto Health is in Downtown Columbia, and USC is just on the other side of the State House. We're talking close enough to walk for lunch type distances.

It's fine - are you looking at the converted mill or Aspyre?

That's where you get the trains blowing their horns all night.
