True, a Rosewood Market, or even an Earth Fare or Fresh Market would work (Rosewood Market is the smaller of the three; thus, their selection is somewhat limited). However, it seems that Columbia is large enough to have a variety of health food stores. I mentioned Whole Foods because they have such a large variety to choose from. And, they really do offer more than the aforementioned stores. Moreover, they are a high quality health food store (that is not to say that the above stores are not). Trader Joes is a good store also; and it would be nice to have both of them in the NE.

Actually, it may be easier to get a Trader Joes in the NE, because Whole Foods decides, on the basis of demographics, where they will build. Charleston and Greenville seemed to work for them, but apparently Columbia didn't. That's somewhat surprising because it seems that they are attracted to college towns.

Waccamatt, I know that you have a bias for the downtown area (and immediate surrounding areas), and toward keeping things local. That's fine. Obviously, I am new to SC, and obviously, I do not share that same bias. However, it's so fun to discuss these issues

You're right, Davey, though my bias isn't just for things locally in Columbia, it's a bias for small, locally-owned businesses versus conglomerates everywhere. I try and seek out cool, local places wherever I go, though that isn't always possible.

mommabear2one is on a distinguished road
I have been to all 3. I have heard rave reviews from others about TJ and Whole Foods. I just think it would be good to have some other places to go to.
