Default South East Columbia - Neighborhoods

Currently in Charleston, may soon be taking a job at Shaw AFB. I would like to be fairly close to I-77 and Columbia in general. I'll be looking for a home to rent for the first few months, with regard placed on location and school quality, while being able to commute 45min or so to Shaw. Any areas/neighborhoods fit these criteria? Thanks!

Plenty of neighborhoods available close to I-77 in the southeast. What is your price range? House or apartment? Most of the newer neighborhoods are between Leesburg & Garners Ferry - search zip code 29209 at www.thestate.com under real estate

Check out Rosewood and Shandon for older communities, also Hampton Woods behind the VA hospital. For newer communities Willow Tree and Alexander Pointe.

Ashewood, Myers Creek, Willow Tree, and Rose Haven are all good choices.

Thanks for the info so far everyone....and Brandon, I'm glad you chimed in. I may actually be looking to buy as well...I may be contacting you offline shortly.

As for price range, I'm looking to pay rent up to 1300 perhaps...4bedroom, 2000+ sq ft. Not sure if I'll find that up there for 1300 though. Here in Charleston (Summerville, actually) I'm paying 1150 for a 4bed, 4 bath, 2500sq ft house (about 3yrs old). But since I may look into buying as well (VA loan, 8000K tax credit, etc) I may not be looking for a very permanent rental.

Which school district would the aforementioned neighborhoods belong to?

Thanks!

I think you would like Pennington Place, it's off of Leesburg Road and Amelia Place is off True street. Both place go to Brennan elementary, Clayton Middle and AC Flora HS. It's only take me 30 mins to Shaw AFB.

In general, yes, but AC Flora & Dreher have pretty good repuations for high schools and they are in Richland 1.

There are some very good schools in Richland 1. Richland 2 does have a better reputation overall, but there are plenty of good schools in 1, especially in the AC Flora and Dreher High School feeder schools.
