Social problems in West Columbia, SC (Lexington: rental, mortgage, neighborhoods)

I am a Social Work student working on improving some ofthe social work issues in West Columbia. If you know of any issues in this town in the areas of Health and Religion, please let me know. Thanks

Health or religous issues!? I'm not sure; However, I can testify that there are definitly some social issues here in W. Columbia compared to the surrounding areas of Lexington. I recently moved from Lexington to West Columbia and it seems that majority keep to themselves; definite lack of people skills or communication issues can be reviewed or compared to going to your local Walmart and Lowes; (notice the negitive energy)and you will quickly realize that there is a problem; Health or religous issues I do not believe are the cause of this. I believe the cause of this is greedy investors;notice the rental rate in West Columbia verses Lexington. Investors are quick to purchase any realestate in West Columbia because this is the area where most jobs are available to both trained and untrained individuals. Once the investers purchase the property they are quick to rent it for double the acutal mortgage price, this greedy yet self rewarding buisness of realestate, Enables the struggling individual or family to work more hours for the BASIC BASIC ROOF OVER YOUR HEAD AND FOOD FOR FAMILY, which in return disables the average working family due to lack of time (because time is money)(note again just to pay for basic roof over head and food on table) to enjoy the free things in life such as front porch sitting or maybe a simple family night or get together.

The only health issues I can see in this area would be mental health issues from struggleing to make ends meet to pay rent and have food for your family, not to mention in meantime overloading how you wish you could bring your family on vacation or how your going to buy them school clothes.

Religoius issues--no they have faith but its the money which is the root to all evil that makes West Columbia have such social issues..

This is just my view, but I had to say it.

Everyone for themselves is the social issue here; as can be deminstrated in greed by investers compared to the american dream and inflation in basic neccessity housing.

Foundation= money=greed=evil=miserable people

Many obese children and not enough activities.

Wow...don't know about all that. I disagree with many of those housing statements. I think you are a bit uninformed on some of the housing issues as well. Investors aren't evil or crooks. Many do a great thing by rehabbing properties and neighborhoods. I won't go into detail unless you respond, but you are off base.
