Default SC motorcycle insurance

Has anyone else found that motorcycle insurance in SC is outrageousley expensive?
It is double what I paid for the same coverage in MI through Progressive.
Is it due to the SC no helmet policy?
Has onyone shopped around and found a reasonable policy writer?
I'm in Sumter.

Thanks,

MISC

for what it's worth as a comparison, our boat insurance went up here from what we paid in WI; part of that due to longer 'season' it can be used. So perhaps that same logic may apply to bikes as well. Lets face it, neither of us probably used our "toys" in the midwest more then maybe 6 months of the year ( +/- ). Here, all 12 are potential.

I know our car insurance is more expensive here than CT.

I have progressive motorcycle insurance for the past 2 years and

don't think it's too bad.
