Call Hammond Realty. They sometimes have steals for rent.

I have made some appointments for this weekend to view apts, and I was wondering if anyone could offer me some information in terms of where these apts are located. Good/bad areas? Entertainment? Shopping?
Foxfire Drive, Metze Road, Brook Pines Drive, Longcreek Drive, and Zimalcrest Drive located outside of Columbia, up towards the Harbison area.
Green Street, Marion Street in Columbia closer to dt
I'm also looking at an apt complex in West Columbia on Riverbed Drive
I'm most interested in living right in the dt area, or within walking distance to it, but those apt complexs have been out of my price range, or have no openings.

Avoid Brookpines Apts and the apartments on Riverbend Drive. Check the Rapids, they may be within your price range. Greene Street and Marion Street are fine in most parts - do you have a street number?

It's 2009 Green Street..and 1817 Marion Street. The rapids have this status thing where if you make above a certain amoun you don't qualify for their normal rental rate, and they raise the rent price by 200.
If you don't mind me asking...the Brookpines apts and the West Vista apts on Riverbend Dr...what have you heard about them? Do they have negative reviews, or at they in a bad area? How is West Columbia in general? Thank you by the way for all your help!

They aren't really bad areas, just complexes that kind of have a "reputation" as being kind of wild, so to speak. I used to live 3 blocks from the one you're looking at on Marion Street. It is not really a residential area - there are mostly attorney's offices around there, but it wouldn't be a bad area. It is within a mile of The Vista, it's close to Main Street and about a mile and a half from Five Points. I used to live about 3 blocks north of there on Marion, but on the other side of Elmwood, which is more residential. I checked that address on Greene and it is right in Five Points. I would DEFINITELY choose that one as long as the building is cool. I'm pretty sure that is the pink stucco midrise condo next to Andy's Deli. I'm not sure what kind of shape the condos are in, inside, but a more awesome location could not be found. It will not be a quiet place, though, if you're looking for quiet. That is right in the middle of Five Points.
It is the pink building in the background of this pic. The pic is old - Five Points has been totally redone since then.
I found another pic:
Here are a few more recent photos of Five Points:

Good to hear NYG. What part of town did you finally settle on?

This thread has been so helpful to me! I am in the exact same situation except that I am already down here staying with a friend. I have looked at some apartments in Shandon and Rosewood. Do those seem to be safe neighboorhoods?

Those are both nice areas but the truth is that most places in Columbia are safe. The few that are not are easy to recognize for the average person and even then are usually tame during the day. Stay away from them at night and you'll be fine.
