Columbia included in Money Magazine's top 25 places to retire
Saw this article this morning:
25 Best Places to Retire - Columbia, S.C. (22) - Money Magazine
Looks like Columbia is finally getting some of the recognition it deserves!

Columbia Unsafe?

Scared us a lot. Made a quick right turn and hightailed it out of there. This was in the supposed "redone" downtown historic district. No Columbia retirement for me!!!
These Top 25 lists are so superficial. To me it looks like someone read a few reviews and maybe visited for a few hours and made up this list.

Yeah it's funny how some people can visit an area for a short time, do minimal research and feel informed enough to announce a sweeping determination in a forum where others might read their opinions.
Oh well, you know what they say about opinions.

FYI, I have read numerous books on city information and data, visited many cities, and researched each one thoroughly before I went. I read a lot about Columbia in books and on-line before the visit, saw the Capitol Bldg., the Riverfront, the shops, saw the university, rode out to the dam. Tried to visit the lake but it was CLOSED!!! So I was informed about Columbia. I just didn't like your city! And I was very frightened by the gun slinger in a supposedly "good" area. And snarky people just confirm my decision.

Greenville was ranked 2nd best place to live in the country by AARP. Let the bashing begin.

It was closed? Damned dam budget cuts. Whatever will the fish do to make a living now?

The AARP ranking was only for cities in which to live simply.

Beware being happy about making such lists - all that brings is more people, traffic, and devlopments! I really want to find a "best kept secret" kind of place for my retirement, not a place where EVERYONE is moving to!
