Default Safe neighboorhoods for girl in mid-20's

Hello, I am currently looking for an apartment, I am a young professional in my mid 20's and I was wondering what people thought about neighboorhoods or areas that should be avoided for a girl living by herself. I saw some apartments close to the columbia airport that look cute, but I'm not to sure about the area. Any suggestions about areas to stay away from, or areas to seek out would be really helpful.

As in most cities, the area around the airport is somewhat undesirable.

In what area of town will you be working? What amenities are important to you in a neighborhood and a home?

I work near the Airport. There's an established neighborhood in Springdale, but houses hardly ever come up for sale around there. Cayce has a middle-class neighborhood at Highway 301 and Boston Avenue. The aesthetics of that corridor in my eye leave a lot to be desired. Unfortunately I'm reminded of that every day upon my arrival at work. I'm not talking about abandoned buildings, but streetscaping and commercial landscaping apparently are not high on that area's priority list.

It sounds like you are looking for a nice apartment complex suited for people like yourself. A lot might depend on your price range for an apartment--for a 1-BR in a nice and/or newer complex you might be looking at anywhere from $600-900 give or take.

If you don't have to live right downtown then I would look at apartment communities in Lexington, the Harbison area (near the Columbiana Mall) and Northeast Columbia. All of these area have some nice/newer complexes. Northeast Columbia would be a little farther from downtown but is a pretty hot area.

Two nice/new complexes off-hand that might fit your needs (both in Lexington)--Lullwater at Saluda Pointe (which is located on Hwy. 378 right off of I-20) and Cedarcrest Village (located on Hwy. 1 a/b one-mile or so off of I-20). I think Cedarcrest is in the $600s and Lullwater in starts in the $700s and has young professional types there.
