Default Relocating from Seattle area to Lexington, Oak Grove?

Hello everyone,

My wife is taking a job near the airport and my research so far is telling me we want to be in the area served by Oak Grove elementary school, it'll be close to work and seems to be one of the best schools in the region for my girls.

OTOH I really have no idea about the character of that neighborhood, I'll be flying out to house hunt but I'd really appreciate any information on that area or others near the airport we should consider, good schools are probably our highest priority, but are there any other draws to Oak Grove? Any particular neighborhoods that have something particularly cool about them? What is there to do in the area?

Any info would be great, we just found out about the move the other day and we're still a bit overwhelmed by the prospect.

From the Seattle area to Lexington. Ookay! Not from the Seattle area to the Columbia area. Just kidding. Does Oak Grove Elementary feed Airport High School? I work next to Airport High but live in Columbia. It takes me 23 minutes to get to work from the opposite side of downtown Columbia. There are neighborhoods all around the Oak Grove area, so you should be able to find something to fit your budget. Airport is a decent school. Coincidentally I just came from a football game there. On a whim I sent to that game because I was in the mood to see a crowd at a high school football game and I figured they would have one because they are undefeated so far this season. They did have a big crowd and were winning when we left at the beginning of the fourth quarter like 63-19.

A lot sunnier over here than Seattle. I visited Redmond when I used to work for Eddie Bauer and it was beautiful when it was not raining. Oak Grove Elementary feeds into Lexington Middle and High School. All good schools. There are some new home neighborhoods right of Mineral Springs which is still convenient to the Town of Lexington. Convenient for shopping. The biggest draw to Oak Grove is the Lexington Tennis Complex then the Flea Market. Lake Murray is nearby if you are into boating and water sports. Good Luck with the home search.

I'm from Seattle. Lived there until 1980. Been here since 1992. Just like anywhere else some areas are better than others. I wouldn't live on that side of town but that's just me. I live near the north east area in an older established neighborhood with great neighbors for the most part. Just make sure you take your time if you can before deciding. I know of a real nice place on a small lake near me for $145k. Right next to I-20 and I-77

Oak Grove is a great area IMO. Good schools, good location. They have 2 softball complexes and a tennis complex right there, close to shopping and I-20 and I-26. Less than 15 minutes to Harbison and just over that to downtown. Variety of neighborhoods and prices which you'll probably be quite happy with compared to Seattle. Any other specific questions?
