some advice on Columbia/Summit homes (Jackson: to rent, crime, house)

we just saw a house online to rent... it is very nice and not lived in yet. We called and the man said it was in Columbia and that the name of the community was Fox Run off of Summit and adjacent to Fort Jackson..... any pros and cons would be appreciated.
Definatly not the area we were looking in but seems really nice. The only post I saw on here for Columbia a while back said it had alot of crime and so on.... would it be bad with Fort Jackson being close by? Calgone.. take me away.lol

my husband and i have been here a year in columbia, my husband in the army and stationed at ft. jackson. we almost bought a house in the summit, which is nice, but we are not home owner's assoc. kinda people. we don't like rules hanging over our head. we found a beautiful little house in a nice neighborhood, and are much happier than if we had gone with the summit. we actually will be selling it soon, as we'll be leaving already! it's our first house, and we love it, so i'll miss the house itself. but i won't miss columbia! i see your message was posted in july, have you already moved to columbia? where are you moving from? it seems that yes, the crime is high here, and i've never experience such rude people in my life. i'm not trying to offend anyone at all, that's just my opinion. best wishes to you!
