Although I am working in Lexington, I do not feel that Lexington is the best place for someone who is single and in their mid thirties. I do not know much about the rest of the Columbia area so any suggestions would be great. I am looking at renting a house and then buying when I figure out which area is best for me. Thanks for any help. My price range is 200k to 250k.
If you want to be closer to down town you can check out Cayce, Rosewood, Earlewood or Forest Acres areas. All are nice and a lot closer to downtown if that's what you're looking for. Lexington is suburbs and I know lots of people that live there. I'm a Clemson grad, love the moniker.
Thanks for the advice from both of you. Brandon, Lexington is a great place but it seems to be a great place for young couples to raise their children but maybe not so much for someone who is single. I am not looking for "the going out scene like I did at Clemson" but I am looking for a little bit of a social life. Are the people you know that live in Lexington single or young couples with children? I hope all of that makes sense. Thanks!

What *is* the best place for someone who is single and in their mid-thirties? I'm single (now) and in my early-mid thirties and I prefer to live away from town with some land, my privacy, and friendly neighbors that wave as I drive by. But I know plenty of my "peers" that would prefer the opposite: something as close to the action as possible with nothing to worry about/maintain and neighbors that mind their own business.
If I *were* going to live in town (and I did consider it a year or two ago), I would look at Cayce. It seems to have a more laid back atmosphere, isn't quite as congested feeling as Rosewood or Forest Acres, has plenty of parks and river access in the immediate area, and you're just across the river from the downtown area if you do enjoy the nightlife.
I have to second Brandon's suggestion for the Avenues. If I were single or we were empty nesters we would probably live in the Avenues. The only reason we left there was to chase schools.
I would move to Shandon or Rosewood. I am single and lived in Shandon and loved it. I graduated from Clemson as well.
