I don't know about Lexington, but on Harbison Blvd in Irmo, there is Ashley Furniture and Rooms to Go. Both seem popular, and affordable.

Not talking about bunk beds, but if you are looking for a fun unique furniture shop, which is huge, go to Whit-Ash downtown on Gervais. Great place for you and yr wife to brouse.

Ditto everything that Nausikaa recommended, double ditto for Whit-Ash. Huge selection there and reasonably priced.

Are there good stores for used books and cds? Used CD's try Papa Jazz in 5 Points or Manifest in Boozer Shopping Center. I know some of the antique malls have used book areas. I think there is also a place called Ed's Editions in the West Vista.

Do you have Targets down there? Yes, there are 4 Targets in the Columbia area and they have a distribution center in the metro, too.

Who is the big grocer? There are several big grocers, but my favorites are Publix and Fresh Market. We also have Piggly Wiggly, Krogers, Food Lion, Walmart, Bilo and others. There are 2 natural food stores that I know of - Earthfare on Devine Street and Rosewood Market on Rosewood Drive.

Who are the cable/internet/phone providers? In the urban areas we have Time Warner for cable, Bellsouth for phone and both of those for internet. Of course there are many other ISP's, too.

How is public transportation? Public transportation is fair. If you live in certain areas in-town you can get around decently using public transportation, but service to the suburbs is limited. There is very little service into Lexington County, most of it is in Richland.

Are there any local community colleges? Midlands Technical College has 4 campuses, I believe, in the Columbia area. Overall, Columbia has 8 colleges and universities, not counting ones like Phoenix, Webster and the other ones like those.

Is the public library system any good? Richland County's main library was named the national library of the year a few years ago and they have a number of branches around the county. The main library is downtown on Assembly Street and it is spectacular.

Are there a lot of open wifi areas? A number of bars, restaurants and cafes have open wifi and the central part of the Vista has it, too. I'm pretty sure part of Main Street does, as well, along with the airport and the USC Campus if you are a student.
