Default Lakes near Columbia/Camden

Here's my question. My family is moving to the Camden area at the end of July. We're coming from Michigan (the Great LAKE State) and indeed, during the summer we are at the lake several times a week. What lakes are near the Camden area? In my own research I have found Lake Wateree. Is that an all-sports lake? Are there public beaches/swimming areas? Do you have to pay daily rates?
Any other lakes in the areas surrounding Camden? Any info would be appreciated, thanks!

Lakke Murray is on the opposite side of the metro and is usually a pretty popular public spot.

Lake Murray is bigger than Wateree, but Wateree has plenty of boating, etc. I know Murray has public beaches, but I'm not sure about Wateree. I believe the boat landings are free or very inexpensive. There is a state park - Dreher Island - on Lake Murray.
