People who like to row and who are looking for a place to retire might want to move to Columbia. Rower's Almanac has named the city a top-10 place for rowers to retire to, citing easy access to the rivers, a pedestrian-friendly downtown area, an abundance of restaurants, and other assets.

Wow.. Interesting...Its amazing how there is always some organization out there tracking this type of information...... "The association of retired cup stackers ranks Darlington as the best place to live because of its close proximity to the dixie cup plant"

Well, I'll be. See? And I'll bet there are some Darlingtonians who are are so negative by nature that they've had something smart to say about their little kudo. At any rate, here's Rower's Almanac's take on our "progressive urban area."

Default Lake

Are there Cottonmouths in that big lake near Columbia? I am thinking of moving to Columbia but would avoid water areas because of those snakes in the South.

They're nothing compared to the snakes down at city hall.

But seriously there are cottonmouths over most of South Carolina so there are some in Lake Murray. Just keep in mind that they are not an aggressive species and will go out of their way to avoid you.
