Again, most of these pools are located downtown. If you live in NE Richland like me, you have no choices nearby. However, I am going to check out Trenholm Park.

I guess people know why we pay "city taxes" now, so we are convenient to everything. I'm within a 10 minute drive of Greenview, Drew and Maxcy Gregg. I could even ride my bike to Drew.

Believe me, I would have preferred buying a house in the city limits, but I ran into 2 difficulties: finding a house that was affordable while I was a masters student and finding a house that didn't have my wife commuting 30 minutes to where she teaches. Richland County needs to get its act together with recreational complexes and parks, IMO...maybe getting Forest Acres or Cola city limits up here would give us more of those benefits.

I'd love to see a city/county consolidation. There is such a cost savings when you dont have 10 different governments providing the same services, but the state legislature doesn't see it that way; annexation is so much more difficult in SC than in NC or Georgia. It is very frustrating to me. Imagine if there was only 1 police force, 1 sanitation department, 1 parks and recreation department and 1 water source in the county, how much more efficiently our resources could be used. Its crazy, in my opinion. Also, that's too bad that your school and jobs are so far apart. You're right about the county not offering nearly as many amenities as the city.

Absolutely, Matt. You and I know what each other have said on Urbanplanet about city/county consolidation, even maybe some city mergers. It would make things alot easier and provide more accessibility to amenities for people throughout the metro area.

I went by Trenholm Park today...it is waaaaayy out of the way from where I live and work. I might as well go downtown to the Drew Center. I guess I'm out of luck to find a convenient pool.

I'm sorry you've had so much trouble finding a pool; sso many subdivisions/condo and apartment complexes have pools now I guess there hasn't been a big outcry for pools to be built by the county. I don't know if you've been by Drew Park, but the new pool looks nice.

Drew Park is nice, just out of the way, since I live and work in NE. If subdivisions gave people more access to pools, I wouldn't be complaining, but they are very particular about allowing only residents to use their facilities.
