Columbia is a diverse city; no zip code is monolithic.

How does a Zip Code get drawn? I assume some Federal Agency does them.. but in some areas neighborhoods have fought to get out of or put in certain zip codes.. For instance, Zip Codes can determine how high your car insurance will be. If you live in a nice neighborhood but its in a high crime zip code you will feel this affect. Demographic data is tracked via zip code.. and some studies can track how long you will live based on your zip code.. My point being these boundaries are drawn by some bureaucrat but they impact people's lives on a number of levels..

I think more of that is based on census tract, which is a smaller area than a zip code.
