First, thanks SO MUCH for the feedback from you all about the best career to pursue in the Columbus, Georgia/Phenix City, Alabama areas.
With my boyfriend living in Phenix City but working in Columbus - I want to make sure I have looked at the options in BOTH locations for my planned move from Orlando, Florida in December to join him.
As stated in my previous post, I had tried to find a job there with him in May to June of this year and was not able to. Ended up moving back to Orlando, Florida for a temporary gig (July to December) and very grateful that my daughter and her roommate allowed me to stay with them temporarily.
From what I have read, it seems in my best interest to figure out a way to get some "medical" experience or knowledge into my life. I am age 52 and have been in the "office support" field for basically all my life with a few jaunts out into other areas as needed - hey, always pays to be "flexible" when the job market dries up (lol).
Any suggestions on what I can do to "prepare" myself between now and December to hopefully have better luck in getting an income when I return in December?
I am presently supporting a professor at the university here in Orlando, Florida on a part-time basis with putting her Ergonomics textbook together. It has been an exciting project and I hope the "experience" will open some doors for me back home (Phenix City, Alabama/Columbus, Georgia)..........
Is anyone using Microsoft 2010 as yet? I have been hearing that it is not "officially" out, but the university I am working at was kind enough to give me one of their 2007 manuals as they are now teaching 2010 (lol). Here I am trying to learn 2007 as when I was laid off in 2008, the job I had for 2 years was using 2003. But I am getting there, been "stressful" but I thank God he put me where I am now so that I can get some FREE "on the job training"...... I did the 2007 here in Orlando, Florida at the public library where they offer them for FREE - thank goodness. But book knowledge is so different from working knowledge...... But I am getting there and I know in December I will be ready to learn 2010!

Medical coding seems to be in demand off and on in this area. I don't know that much about the medical field opportunities, but there are, consistently job opportunities in the various medical fields in the Phenix City/Columbus/Ft Benning area. http://www.greatercolumbusga.com has Hospital and Employment categories under phone website listing tab on the front page. It's pretty comprehensive and will allow you to search easily for jobs in the medical fields. Hope you find what you need there and a job.
By the way, there are 12000 unemployed in the Columbus area right now, but the medical area still has job openings.
