Columbus has been growing steadily without Fort Benning with most growth going north to Harris County and across the river to Lee County, AL (Smiths Station). With major company expansions and Fort Bennings growth, Columbus is setting itself to go to the next level. BRAC doesn't really start until 2011.

Using stock photos of some festival or major event to say that is what downtown Augusta looks like on a typical Saturday morning is hilarious. Downtown Atlanta doesn't even look like that on a Saturday morning.

Well that's really good to know. I hope the momentum continues!

Mike, when a SEC game is only thirty miles away, that in this area. The closest SEC game to Augusta would be in Columbia and that's some 80 miles to the east. Of course we get to see some HBCU games here also.

Someone on this thread did, I was shock about it but it was also telling. No one would ever part their lips to say that about Augusta.

That wasn't the question but whatever.

Ok, we get it, Columbus is proud of their ice rink, Geez. That golf garden was a pet project of the Mayor. You have to understand people of Augusta really aren't that big of fans of golf, like we are in SEC football and others. All those people you see at the Augusta National during the Master are mostly tourist from all over the world. They are the ones jam-packing our traffic, restaurants and hotels. Most people in Augusta go on vacation that week.

Yea, I know.

Good, our troop deserve that kind of treatment for what they sacrifice everyday for our freedoms or atleats the ones we have left. Columbus city leaders should thanking their lucky star that 30,000 personel are being delivered to the city. Without that Columbus would have been siding down to fifth and sixth place in terms of size. What are the MOS of the troops at Fort Benning?

Actually, Columbus has always had growth from one census to the next, Augusta can not say that. The 2000 census was bad for Augusta, Savannah and Macon, each city lost population, Columbus on the other hand gained. But hey, maybe this coming census would be better for Augusta and Savannah, I don't think it would be good for Macon.

Merry Christmas my fellow 706ers on the westside.
Enjoy the Holidays.

The difference is people are choosing to come to Augusta.

Dont count your eggs before they hatch.
To inject a bit of reality into this cripple fight, it should be noted that no one is really breaking their neck to move to either Augusta or Columbus, as both have growth rates on the slower side. Most of Augusta's and Columbus's peers throughout the Southeast are growing significantly faster than each. Each city has its positives and claims to fame, but honestly growth isn't among them for either one.

Now, now, don't come on here injecting facts into this fight. We want to fight with lies and damn lies.

Enjoy your Holidays

Well that major event happens every Saturday from Spring to Fall. Its call the Saturday Market. You should watch the video again because the DDA director clearly states it in the video. You are sounding more like a hater every post you make.

Hold up one second you said earlier that the crowds in the Saturday Market video was just like the ones that Columbus have everday. Now you are saying its impossible to have a crowd of that size on every Saturday? Why? Because Atlanta doesn't? So how does Columbus do it everyday? Get your story straight.

Columbus is working hard to redevelop a lot of the older mills and buildings downtown. A developer from Albany just started a project on the eastside of downtown and a local developer is finishing up the Eagle & Phenix Mill along the Riverwalk. These projects will bring a significant amount of people downtown. I hope the momentum continues as well! It is amazing to see what is happening in this economy.
