Smile columbus area

Hey, I'm also an army wife. We've been in the Benning/Columbus area for 2 years now. As far as renting a house off post goes, I recommend nothing below exit 6 off I-185. Anything below that aren't very good neighborhoods. We lived in apts. the first year we were here off exit 10, but moved onto post into single family homes in McDonald manor. However, they are only 2 bedrooms. Not sure how many children you have. This area is nice, except for the weather-HOT & HUMID! Shopping, dining, and entertainment is great here. Let me know if you want to know anything else. Take care!

Default columbus area

I lived in Columbus for 4 years with Army husband, and we lived first in apartments on Double Churches Rd (Hamilton Station) and they were nice. We bought a house on Double Churches also, and loved the area. I would stay away from anything exit 6 and below. Most anything off exit 10 and 12 are really nice. Hope this helps. We are thinking we may have to move back soon, so I hope we can find another place we like.

There are plenty of nice areas below exit 6. Don't categorize the whole area as undesirable because of a few bad spots. Plenty of crackhead areas above exit 6 too. That being said I personally would live on the northeast side or a area they call midtown now(near Lakebottom).

Also my sister lives off Flat Rock Road. There are a lot of military families who live around there.

Stay on the northside of Columbus.. not sure why this is.. but it always seems that the neighborhoods right around most military bases are not that nice (must be the transience I suppose)

The Lake bottom area in Columbus, GA is great because it has this huge park that everyone loves, and is very safe.

We are actually selling a house in that area, here is the link:
houses in GA sale by owner @ For Sale By Owner.com

If you are interested. Just make sure to stick to the Lake bottom area or North Columbus area. Those are the safest, Lake Bottom is closer to Post.

Don't limit yourself to the north side of town or you might miss out on a good buy and some good neighbors. The Lake Bottom area is supper nice, but unless you are an 0-5 or above you might find the prices a little out of your price range for a decent size house.
