We moved here from Texas in late 2009 and have yet to find a good Tex-Mex (not nasty Mexican like we keep tasting here - there IS a difference) place. PLEASE say that's what you're bringing! I would welcome it AND frequent it with my family of 5!!

And if you need an opinion from a Texan, just let me know. I'll be happy to sample and give my honest opinion.

Hey everyone!! We checked out potential spots for our restaurant over the weekend. Columbus Crossing was absolutely beautiful and the ideal location BUT we did not see one local owned business in that area besides the mexican ones surrounding it .We are leaning toward Uptown. I would love to hear feedback from anyone who can give me some insight on what they predict or opinions they have. We noticed that there were 2 locations we liked. The people that work at TSYS and AFLAC and the other surrounding businesses : Where do yall eat? I didn't see much to choose from in that area. Thanks again for any feedback.

Uptown would be a perfect location. Large daytime and nightime population. Definitely a lot going on down there. Keep in mind though there is a Mexican place on Broadway called Cantina. Cool place with good food. If you guys had something totally different I say go for it. Are you guys looking to rent space or build from the ground up?

The downtown locations did not work out... minimum sq ft was 4000 in the vacancy we were looking at. The other building was leased as is, and there was a lot of work we did not want to commit to doing.
I just posted another forum about opinions on other cities. Please check it out and help me decide. Thanks so much!!

I wouldn't worry about Cantina. We ate there our first night here after moving from Texas (keep that in mind - we've had GOOD Mexican food).

Anyway, worst Mexican I've ever had. We asked for tortillas and they had no idea why we would want to just eat tortillas. Then we asked for butter for them and the waiter said, "Peanut butter? We don't have peanut butter." After much confusion, he finally brought us butter. Melted. In a little cup. It made me wonder why in the world this place was still in business if they've never heard of spreading butter on a tortilla. The carne asada was horrendous and I told my husband we will never go back!

If you opened a Tex-Mex type place, you would probably see a lot of business from people who know how much better it is than authentic Mexican.

My husband and I are constantly saying that SOMEONE from Texas (or close to it) must want the same thing we do - some good Tex-Mex. And we keep waiting for someone to open a place that offers it.

Default Other areas

The Greater Columbus Ga area has about 200,000 people. El Vaquero is very popular in the area. You should check them out. Phenix City, Al is across the river and Ft. Mitchell, AL is to the south. Auburn, AL, home to Auburn University is about 45 minutes away and people drive from there to Columbus...sometimes commuting to work in Columbus. Macon, Ga is about 1.5 hours away to the east. I think you should find a place in the Columbus Area as it is centrally located. Good luck! Moderator cut: advertising/soliciting not permitted per TOS

We have decided to open a New Orleans themed cajun restaurant in Newnan. I fell in love with the city!! We do plan to open up another restaurant (maybe mexican) in Columbus in a couple years. Thank you everyone for your feedback!
