From a combat simulator to a walk through history lesson of our country's wars, the National Infantry Museum in Columbus impresses visitors every day.

"I mean just the history they have here is amazing. I didn't know a lot about the wars and stuff like that," said Cody Hughes, visiting from Arizona.

The National Infantry Foundation has even more planned for the future of the complex. The Executive Director Ben Williams says you just need to walk outside to see it. 60 acres of land at the end of the museum's parking lot are ready for development and will one day be Patriot's Walk.

"Of those 60 acres is a two acre track where we will have a hotel built," said Williams.

He says construction will start on Valley Hospitality's four-story Hampton Inn with about 100 rooms in January.

The Foundation is working with Woodruff Development Company to develop the rest of the land for anything from commercial office space to shopping, and even apartments.

"We're the owner of the property, but we don't have any intention of being the developer. We're talking with private developers who would either be able to purchase some of the land or we would work with them on a long term lease agreement," said Williams.

He explains there will be restrictions on how the buildings will look so they will blend with the design of the museum.

However, no matter what the structures look like, Williams says the project will help the community.

"Our foundation, and all the people that have supported this project to this point have made a pretty significant statement in the fact that we've built a $100 million museum here, and this will continue to enhance property values and take advantage of all the activity certainly that's going on at Benning," said Williams.

Visitors say they cannot wait to see the finished product.

"If there was a hotel next to this place, people would definitely come here a lot more. I mean, there are a million things to do here," said Hughes.

Williams says the development of all the land will take years to complete. He says the profit from leasing or selling the land will go to helping the museum.

The development will consist of:

1) 56,000 square feet of retail space
2) 83,900 square feet of office space
3) Hampton Inn (100 rooms)
4) 581 apartments
5) 18,000 square feet of restaurant space

Nice development for South Columbus. Just another example of just how much is going on in this city.

Keep in mind the Armor Museum hasn't even started yet. This will be a world class facility just like the Infantry Museum.
