The retail and restaurant offerings at Columbus Park Crossing look to become even more numerous with plans to develop an additional 70 acres of land now being marketed by Adams Brokerage Co.

The 70 wooded acres are positioned on the southern boundary of Whittlesey Boulevard, between a strip center anchored by Kohl’s and the entrance to Greystone at Columbus Park apartments. The center has more than 1.4 million square feet of store and restaurant space. With the new addition, it will push the center to well over 2 million square feet of space. Columbus Park Crossing South, as Adams Brokerage refers to the newest 70-acre phase, will add a projected 500,000 square feet of space to the mix. A preliminary master plan indicates it could have two very large anchors, 14 more structures with a few dozen tenants and five outparcels fronting Whittlesey Boulevard.

Outdoor equipment, clothing and sporting goods store Gander Mountain is chomping at the bit to enter the market “sooner than later” with a 50,000-square-foot store. They are looking to expand into Columbus because of the whitewater course that is currently being developed downtown.

No timeline has yet been set to break ground on the latest phase of Columbus Park. Lewis will be meeting with prospects in the coming months, with it often taking six months to a year to negotiate leases following a letter of intent, depending on the size of tenant.

Adams Brokerage is looking to fill the final vacancies in its Columbus Park Crossing Northwest Center. Aside from Zoës Kitchen, a CherryBerry frozen yogurt outlet has signed a lease, as has PeachMac, a Georgia-based retailer that sells and services Macintosh computers and other products. Five Guys Burgers and Fries is poised to sign a lease in the center, something that could happen this month.

Adams Brokerage also plans yet another small strip center on Veterans Parkway south of the Waffle House and across from the Lowe’s Home Improvement store. The site plan and square footage are still on the drawing board, but the center on the heavily trafficked Veterans Parkway could be a hot commodity

The burgeoning retail activity in the Columbus Park Crossing area comes with Kia Autosport constructing a $7.5 million, 35,000-square-foot dealership on the eastern end of Whittlesey Boulevard near Moon Road. General manager Ed Braun said the auto showroom and car lot is being built on five of eight acres owned by the company. The three acres closest to Moon Road are for future development, although any prospective neighbors have yet to be identified.

STAY TUNED ON WHAT IS COMING!

I agree. Hopefully we will get a Whole Foods out of it. I anticipate we will see slit of retailers and restaurants that are not currently in the market.

I've seen some additional plans for this property and the other side of veterans, by the waffle house and potentially another apartment complex. But A) these things take time to develop and B) generally announced in the spring for some reason it seems
