Target there would be nice, but I've never seen a Target that close to a Wal-Mart. I think they would look for a location that isn't almost in the same shopping center as Walmart. I am hoping for something nice to open there though.

What happend with Costco? I was looking forward to shopping there too.

Costco will happen. No reason they shouldn't be here.

And yet we get an endless parade of dollar stores, fast food joints, gas stations, service stations, med spas, nail salons, etc.

amyers3, could you be more specific regarding what you heard about Costco coming (or not coming) here? From the gist of your post, it sounds like they haven't even given a cursory glance at Columbus. Is this true?

Thanks...

Say what you want - those places bring jobs and services to blighted areas and they move into old buildings the "big" boys won't touch. They're not sexy, but every little bit helps.

Right!!!! There are enough of those... There is no reason why Costco should not be in the SECOND LARGEST CITY in the state of Georgia... I may call Costco next week....

There is a "Bring Costco to Columbus" Facebook page that I just created... feel free to join lol

Agreed, I think Costco is one of the businesses Columbus stands a good chance of getting at some point. Hopefully some of the posters here who claim it's coming or not coming can shed some light on what we've been hearing. I'd be interested in hearing some more details either way.

If retail chains thought like that when choosing location, then yes, there would be no reason why its not here yet. They don't just say,"Since Columbus is Georgia's second largest city, we need to locate there." They look at demographics, metro, trade area, traffic volume, median income, etc. I'm not saying its not coming, I'm just saying that its probably not coming anytime soon. We have a lot of work to do before Costco even seriously considers opening here.
