Columbus has not provided 4000 new above average paying jobs in a LONG time and I notice the Selig center did not mention how many jobs would be lost.....again as it would only be a prediction.
Columbus growing faster than Atlanta...?? Honestly if you told that to any atlanta citizen they would laugh at you..if they even knew where columbus was.
Everyone have a great day....

Faster per capita meaning if Columbus was exactly the same size as Atlanta it would be growing faster. Read carefully before making irrational comments.
By the way, I am an Atlanta citizen.

If you live in Atlanta how can you possibly be in touch with our city and local issues.....and you seem extremely angry and agitated for some reason.
Why are you grabbing at straws looking for fault in anyone who has a statement that is contrary to yours and wants to discuss Columbus in an open and honest way regarding the economy etc.
It is people like you in denial that stunt the growth of Columbus by refusing to address REAL issues whether good or bad and prefer the city to stagnate as it has for so many years and get buried in the past.
Have a wonderful day everyone.....

I lived in Columbus for 23 years that's why I know so much about the city. I still have family there. How am I angry? You are the one who is bitter about something, that is why you are taking it out on the city. I am glad to see that you left. You are the type who wants to bring the city down by belittling it. I don't like people who do that for their own pleasure....very immature and unprofessional.
You are trying to make Columbus out to be this decrepit, backwards city for some reason. I welcome tackling issues. Instead of complaining about them, I actually get and do something about them unlike you. I take a proactive stance on things.
If you have issues, then bring real facts. So far all you have done is make bogus allegations about Columbus.
Hope my vocubulary is not over your head.......

You may want to check your "vocubulary" first......lol
And as far as facts go you have not given any except something you read in the newspaper or on TV which holds little value these days....
Next time you get back down our way try getting out and looking around at what is really going on.
Also I am a vietnam veteran currently living here and have since 60's(about 40 years) and a member of several trade/commerce organizations as well as school/non profit and military vfw groups.
Please try not to patronize people....you sound like the kind of person who would be bitter and angry if they told you that they did not like the car you driving.
I will leave this issue at this point until a time when other columbusites chime in and a real FORUM can be established.
Have a wonderful day everyone

Dude get over it I was typing fast. You have no facts, that's your problem. You have provided no statistical evidence of anything. This debate is finished. You bore me.......

had lunch with several TSYS workers yesterday who said that a sizable amount of employees who had been with them over8-10 years were let go over the past 2-3 months with no warning. They say that the only jobs Aflac/TSYS/Synovus etc are hiring are phone collectors/customer service reps and temp help.
|
Maybe next you have lunch with a couple of privates on Fort Benning and find out what the joint chiefs are planning and report back.

Good point. Why do you think major marketers like the ones building those restaurants, 3 new super walmarts, new hotels, etc. are building all this stuff? Do you think Walmart has no way to research projected growth?? Do you think they just say hey guys lets build 3 new super Walmarts in Columbus Ga or do you think they do market research and projections and then decide where to build. Marriott?? Red Lobster??

The Walmart deal in Columbus had been staged several years ago and even citizens now wonder why in the world would a city this size need this many stores.
Actually Target,Costco and BJs Wholesale had approached the city(Target supercenter with grocery) but were ignored as they would not build on victory drive.
Walmart said ok to that but have been dragging their feet since say they cannot find a place...but did not have a problem on the Northside.
Hotels owners in Columbus at last Chamber meeting said they now feel that there are too many rooms available and have overbuilt.
Restaurants?....they are basically parasite businesses that feed off of busy shopping areas and build wherever the growth is.
It is really all common knowledge.
