WOW! Im scared of Georgia
WOW! I haven't seen so much bickering anywhere except in this forum, and I have been checking our Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina and now Georgia.
Im from Delaware and I grew up in a very rural area, went to Connecticut, came back to Delaware, lived in Jersey, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, so I have a feel for city and rural life. But I have not experienced the tension anywhere that I do in these forums, its not just this thread. It's 2008 and Im shocked there even is racism anymore, humans evolve so haphazardly, but the bickering about who's city is better, thats ridiculous. When I think of where I live I dont even think about just my state. We have New Jersey, Pennsylvania and New York that offers us all wonderful and different things. Like the ethnic experience Patterson, NJ gives me, or the artsy feeling of New Hope, or Cherry Hill New Jersey, etc etc. I take pride in all that.
So I'm a little taken back when I see such divisions in the state of Georgia and Im not naive and know theres stereotypes and the such, which is normal to cities but it sounds like Georgia as a people have not come far and I feel sorry for the people trying to change that and want that change for their children. Heck, maybe Columbus can extend their hand and help out Macon if it's not going anywhere, it sounds pretty nice to me. Still, no reason to get in an argument over it: MAC., I mean I live in Delaware, a place people would immediately associate as small-town but by no means would we be bragging about a Wal-mart. Maybe its your Wal-mart that is leaking all the profits out of your dear town and sending them back to China, that ain't right.

I must correct you on something...you say that nearly every vote falls along racial lines in the Augusta Commision and that is grossly exagerrated and is simply not the case. Here's a few sample minutes to prove it..and these are by the way from last year when the commision still had a few negative people on it.

In fact the majority of the votes are unanimous.

I was stationed in Dover and found Dover and Delaware while overall not overly racist, but as small as it is,it has many small towns that if you closed your eyes you would have thought you were in the deep south. While in the Air Force at Dover ,we were told all to often to stay away from Rising Sun where KKK members were known to associate.Especially southern Delaware I felt unwelcome at times in several cities.I lalso moved in the late 90s to Guess where ;Cherry Hill.Cherry Hill was very diverse but still had it issues as well.Go toward Mt.Holly ,Berlin, and further north To the Wealthy enclaves of Ridgewood, and Somerset,Belvedere counties.I mean really ,just look at Trenton,Jersey City,Patterson ,and Newark.Oh but don't let me forget Atlantic City and the way the blacks and poor have been ignored and treated historically by the Casinos ...,oops..!!I mean city government, well same thing.I don't mean to sound like i'm jumping down your throat, it just people mistake discussing the topic of race means that it terrible to live in a place.I find that after living all over the U.S. the places where it may not be overt racism ,they still support it by allow the status quo.Georgia has The first elected Black woman chief State Supreme Court Justice in the country. The Supreme Court of Georgia :: gasupreme.us
3 of the justices are black. Our States Attorney General,Labor Commisioner are both state wide elected officials serving multiple terms in office. On the other hand one of our most progressive thinking Governors(Roy Barnes)lost his seat over Changing the "Confederate Flag" to Sonny "do-little" Predue,a christian conservative who also is on a short list for possible Vice President for Republicans.
By the way i was raised in Warner Robins.Macon is Today much better than it was when i grew up in th 70's and 80's.The downtown area is hands down better than Columbus.I like Columbus but its laid out poorly,You have to drive around to see the nicer old neighborhoods.Macon is more compact and the revived downtown while not finished is a great place to check out the many State museums and beautiful houses. The Architecture makes you wanna get out and walk almost like Savannah.Robins Air Force Base is 10 min away and it is the State largest single industrial complex and employer.I now live in friendly Atlanta

Columbus lacks the charm, culture and urbanity of the other 2nd Tier cities. It may be adding more jobs and soldiers etc. but until it can match those things that the other cities have, it'll just be dull.

Columbus doesn't have the culture of Savannah, but I know it has the same amount as Augusta or Macon. Columbus is way more diverse than those two cities.....hands down.

Columbus has way more Culture and urbanity than Macon and Disgusta.. To lump Columbus in with those two crap holes isn't fair.
Sure Columbus isn't a tourist mecca like Savannah, but it is still head and shoulders above Macon and Disgusta.

Maybe I'm missing something, but explain to me how Columbus has more urbanity and culture than Augusta and Macon? Columbus is known for what? Having a base? Well the other 2 cities have that too in their metro areas, along with great history. Columbus JUST has the base. How does Columbus's history stack up against those two towns? I mean it's Georgia, all 3 of them are nothing to brag about, but Columbus is the worst. People know about Atlanta,Augusta, Savannah. Some people know about Macon for their music and also for being that "nice sized place you go through right after Atlanta on I-75". I have never heard anyone say anything about Columbus (unless they were referring to Ohio). Like I said Georgia sucks so none are that great, but why would you want to label that hick town as Georgia's 2nd city? Just makes the state look even worse.
